Pet Wellness
Regular wellness examinations give us an opportunity to evaluate your pet’s overall health, discuss any changes you have noticed at home, and identify potential problems before they become more serious.
Because our patients cannot tell us exactly how they are feeling, we rely on a combination of a thorough physical examination, your observations at home, and diagnostic testing when appropriate.
Depending on your pet’s age, lifestyle, medical history, and individual risk factors, we may recommend blood testing, urinalysis, fecal testing, X-rays, or other diagnostic tests as part of preventive care.
For older pets, routine laboratory testing can be especially helpful because some illnesses may be developing before obvious signs appear. We may also recommend baseline testing for younger healthy pets so that future results can be compared with values established when they were well.
Wellness care may include:
- Comprehensive physical examinations
- Individualized vaccination recommendations
- Parasite prevention and control
- Heartworm prevention
- Flea and tick prevention
- Weight management and nutritional counseling
- Laboratory screening when appropriate
- Recommendations for senior-pet care
- Spay and neuter counseling
- Microchip recommendations
- Discussion of behavior, mobility, dental health, and other concerns
Preventive care is not the same for every pet. Our recommendations are based on your pet’s individual needs, with the goal of helping your companion remain healthy, comfortable, and active throughout every stage of life.
