In 1991 during the recession, we became very disturbed when we found ourselves putting pets to sleep with kidney failure and heart disease that could have been prevented.  These pets did not have to die.  With a desire to help financially challenged clients we were inspired to start the Sunnycrest Animal Care Center Dental Awareness Program. According to a study done by Alexandra Horowitz an associate professor of psychology at Barnard College those sad eyes, laid back ears and tails between the legs just mean the pet is aware that their owner is angry. They’re not feeling a bit guilty!

Federal animal health officials announced Tuesday that Chinese jerky treats have caused a mysterious illness outbreak in more than 3,600 dogs (and ten cats) and the death of about 600 pets. That’s the conclusion of a new study, which finds that dogs have    evolved to eat a more varied diet than their wolf ancestors. Survey reveals dosage changes, product substitutions that have harmed pets.   According to the 2012 AVMA pet ownership survey, there are some 164 million cats and dogs in homes across the U.S., and attorneys Elizabeth Carrie and Robert Kass recommend that pet owners plan for the possibility that they may no longer be able to care for their animals.
